Children's Liturgy of the Word
The Children's Liturgy of the Word program offers our youngsters, ages five through ten years, an opportunity to enjoy full, conscious and active participation in the liturgy (Directory for Masses With Children, 22). Most Sundays during the school year the children are blessed by the priest and dismissed from Mass after the Collect, or Opening Prayer, to actively engage in every aspect of the Liturgy of the Word; including a gathering song, a reading or dramatization of the Sunday Scriptures followed by a group sharing, a child's version of the Creed, and Prayer of the Faithful. They return to the church during the Presentation of the Gifts and remain with their families for the remainder of the Mass.
We are always recruiting group leaders for the 8:30 am or 10:45 am Sunday Masses. Leaders:
- must be 18 years or older.
- must be a confirmed, practicing Catholic.
- must submit to a Archdiocesan background check and complete yearly. Archdiocesan Child Protection Program requirements.
- click here to read the Liturgy of the Word Training Sheet for details about the role of the leader.
